AS Level Portfolio Introduction

The AS level Portfolio consists of three tasks; one recording task and two pieces of sequenced work. The three tasks are completed during the autumn and spring terms and ALL the work is carried out at college and during set, organised sessions.

Alongside the practical tasks, students will also complete an assessed logbook which documents the processes and techniques which you have utilised during your work. This wil support the assessment of your practical work and there are two questions worth 20 marks which form part of the AS grade.

The AS level portfolio is worth 70% of the overall AS level grade and this is marked out of 140 marks in total. Each practical task is worth 40 marks (120 marks in total) and the 2 assessed questions make up the additional 20 marks to total 140 marks overall.

All of the tasks for the portfolio will be completed under 'controlled conditions'. Essentially this means the work will be completed during assigned class sessions, students will not have access to this work outside of these sessions and all three of tasks MUST be completed within a time frame of 60 hours. You tutor will manage and monitor this time accordingly and regularly update you with your progress.
Students will be expected to research, practice and prepare or each of the tasks in their own time and this does not affect the time allocated to each task. There are no restrictions to this process and the results may be brought into the controlled sessions upon inspection by your tutor to ensure this are your own work. Typical processes will include practicing and learning parts, organising musicians for the recording task and experimenting with creative ideas.

Your work will be sent to the examiner on an audio CD with the completed log book which is signed and dated by both the tutor and the student. This will complete the coursework element of the AS level course.
